Kalavantindurg - is a sister pinnacle of Prabalgadh fort. Long time back in 2013 I had been to Prabalgadh with my office colleagues where we were totally unprepared in rains had manged to reach the khind (pass) - the base of ascent for Kalavantindurg and had rightly decided not to climb the steep stairs in rains.

Since then I had been looking for opportunity to find company to make this climb. So when one of my friend called in to do this, I immediately accepted. 

We started early by 5am from Pune, but by the time we started from base village and to the khind it was already crowded (fortunately not so much). 

It was a short and thrilling climb with narrow staircase with free fall into the valley. 

And as they say - the descent is more!

Mt Takau Temple

Mar2019

On my return trail from Mt. Takau San I picked the scenic Waterfalls trail (#6). After crossing this temple, 

It being a cloudy day and not many people on the trail provided a very eerie as well as exciting experience. On one hand a very raw foot trail path, thick forest, sound of running waterfall and on other hand it was unknown country, uncertain if path was right, cloudy & dark atmosphere and me alone. I enjoyed the experience.

Valley of Gods

Oct2017

Har Ki Doon Campsite - One of the most beautiful treks. The last campsite on this 7 day trek offering variety of beautiful landscapes, colors and interior village life. We got good time on our own in the second half of the day, and I went for a easy climb to the hill behind our campsite. It is was also one of those my 8yr old daughter was independently doing the trek, interacting with trek leads and other team members with confidence.

The serrated mountains to the right are Swargarohini and it has a mythological story associated with it. During their last days Pandavas took their last journey towards heaven on this peak. During the journey Draupadi (wife of Pandavas) and all of the 4 Pandavas died on the way and only Youdhishtir - the truthful, managed to reach heaven's gate along with a faithful dog who followed him. At the doors the doorkeeper stop him asking to enter without the dog. However Youdhishtir declines to enter the gates without the faithful dog and turns back. The dog reveals that he is Dharmaraj - god of death himself and expresses his delight for ideals of Youdhishtir.

Back to Basics

Landscape overlooking the Ullswater lake - Sometime in Oct2011, we did a drive around the Lake District. This was the first lake we stopped by and had our breakfast. It was a very nice morning and peaceful time to spend at the banks of the lake overlooking the mountains on the other side. The crisp sunlight reflected the bright green mountains. Watching people enjoying the hike on this beautiful day made me think of going back to basics of life and enjoy nature.

Solitude

Same location as previous picture. Looking back on the trail the image is of peaceful green landscape with mountain lakes. Just 15-20mins ago I was in a crowd and now I was all alone without a soul in view for miles.

Cliffs of Quiraing

Cliffs of Quiraing: This was a very nice hike. While my waited in the car with my daughter, I told her I would be back in 20 mins. I just kept walking along the trail till just pass these cliffs and did not realize I had taken about an hour to get back to the vehicle. The scenery is varied starting with green meadows, then goes via hills-edge trails via these cliffs and then opening out with view of the sea.

Cave View

It was Nov2007 when me and my wife visited Grand Canyon - it was a short visit of 2 days and we did the South Kaibab trail which is known for its views of the canyon. However there are no trees or any water refill point on this trail. We took rest in this recess which gave us a respite from the hot day.

Colorful Path

Early morning walk on one of the trails at Pinnacles National Monument. It was heartening to see the California Condor conservation efforts at the park. The park rangers had put up telescopes for viewing the nests and also had put up charts on how the effort is being done and progressed.

Winding Path

Same time as we did the Hurricane Hill trail. This is the trail which leads to the top of hill where we get the white carpet view. I have always been awed with the views from Hurricane Ridge in Olympics - the backdrop of towering mountains gives very nice perspectives and enormity of nature.

In the Forest

Same place as Baby Steps. After the two went off, I wanted to capture this as the back-light gave a very nice ambiance to the place. Also the overall frame looked balanced for exposure.

Baby steps

Quite a symbolic picture ... parent preparing the child to face the challenge of life.

This was taken in Olympic National Forest (WA, US) on a trail near Quinault lake.
