Against All Odds

Same trip as this one. The next day I caught the early morning shuttle and reached the last stop (Temple of Sinawava). After the previous hectic day I wanted to just take a walk along the floor of the Zion Canyon. Also it would give me a chance to capture some wild-life. The views along banks of the Virgin River the with towering canyon walls make one feel claustrophobic and realize how small we are in the overall scheme of things. It also makes you wonder how the seemingly innocent river has carved out the path against all odds with persistence and patience.

Disagreement in Devil's Garden

Some unique rock formation in the Escalante wilderness. Just seems that these have a difference of opinion in this meeting !
This was captured at Devil's Garden. I did not have any campsite/accommodation booking for the night and was told by the BLM office to get an overnight site permit at any of the trail-heads along the Hole-in-the-rock road. From my research on Internet Devil's Garden was one place I was banking on for the overnight accommodation. As I entered this area just below the sign-post I caught a sign of "No Camping" and was disappointed. Later in the day though I managed to camp somewhere else, I did ask the BLM office on this, and they said that camping permits are beyond this point and the car-parking area as one starts to get on to a trail.

Chimney Rock

Chimney Rock of Kodachrome Basin state park - I ditched my last day plan to visit Willis Creek and decided to spend the morning in the Kodachrome Basin State Park. This rock is at one corner of the park and to be reached on unpaved road. The note near the rock says that it has changed very less since 1949 (with its then picture on the post) when National Geographic photographed this basin.

Between Shades of Gray

We had been to hiking to a lake. After a long hike through tree cover the trail went by side of a rock wall. It seemed suddenly the world changed into Black and White.

Fiery Earth Cool Sky

So beautiful contrasts! It was evening and the clear day was transformed into very warm evening. I had gone on a trail down the chain lakes trail near Heather Meadows (Mt. Baker, WA, USA) and was returning back. The golden sunlight cast a fiery look on the rocks which was so very contrasted by the cool blue sky and white cloud streak.
