Kalavantindurg - is a sister pinnacle of Prabalgadh fort. Long time back in 2013 I had been to Prabalgadh with my office colleagues where we were totally unprepared in rains had manged to reach the khind (pass) - the base of ascent for Kalavantindurg and had rightly decided not to climb the steep stairs in rains.

Since then I had been looking for opportunity to find company to make this climb. So when one of my friend called in to do this, I immediately accepted. 

We started early by 5am from Pune, but by the time we started from base village and to the khind it was already crowded (fortunately not so much). 

It was a short and thrilling climb with narrow staircase with free fall into the valley. 

And as they say - the descent is more!

Misty Route

More of the monsoon magic drives to Sinhagad. Though I am from Pune and the fort is only about 50kms from my place, I myself was surprised with the beauty of the place on this day. Being a weekday, it was not crowded and we could enjoy the place at our leisure. The mist over the day used to get dense and sparse giving us glimpses of the village and the surrounding ranges once in a while.

Rajmachi Falls (2)

One more snap of the Rajmachi Falls. This is from Fort Manoranjan.

Rajmachi Falls

Trek to Rajmachi is one of the popular treks in the Sahyadris. The destination is the twin forts of Manoranjan and Shrivardhan. The monsoon brings out the beauty of this place - the three hours trek via Lonavala route, though mostly flat is strewn with numerous waterfalls, streams to cross and views of valley. This waterfall on the way is quite majestic to look at.

I do not know the name, but just called it Rajmachi waterfalls. The same can also be viewed from Manoranjan. I'll post one more picture of this soon.

Prabalgad

En route to Prabalgad - It was after a long break we (me and my wife together) went out for a trek. It was one of the best days of monsoon - drizzling now & then and cloudy most of the time. The route to the fort was blessed with numerous waterfall, greenery and viewpoints. Another highlight of this fort is Kalavantin Durg - which is a lookout point on top of a pinnacle (if I can say that!). The path is a spiral of high incline stairs. We just could manage till the base of the stair. In the monsoon rains, we did not risk climbing them - as they had turned into stepped waterfall with slippery moss.

So at the end of the day - both Prabalgad and Kalavantin Durg remain to be captured :( This calls for a definite winter trek.

Sahyadris in Monsoon

Monsoons is the time when the brown/grey Sahyadris turn in to very fresh shades of green.

Suvela Machee - Rajgad

A monsoon starter trek back at hometown ... Its nearly 14 years I am now back to my hometown and settled here. Lots of pending treks in the region and we started with Rajgad. We expected some drizzles during the trek, however it was quite hot and humid. This picture is of Suvela Machee from top of Bale Killa. Will post more pics of this trip soon
